U.S. Bourke Hickenlooper of Cedar Rapids is the ranking Republican and senior member on the Foreign Relations Committee. He earned his juris doctor degree from the UI in 1922 and practiced law in Cedar Rapids until he began his political career in 1934, when he was elected a State Representative from Linn County. He was re-elected to the Legislature in 1936, and in 1938, he was elected Lieutenant-Governor of Iowa, a post he held for two terms before his successful bid for the Senate in 1944. He was re-elected in 1950, 1956, and 1962.
